I mean, you have to take everything out of the room, which is a pain. Then it's all in the hallway and you stub your toe going to pick up Stacey when she cries at night. That hurts! You have to put down a tarp to keep the paint off the floor. You have to tape around window sills and woodwork. Then there's the painting. It always takes longer than you thought, and you miss the basketball game on TV. Who wants that?
So I talk her into just keeping the room the same color, a nice soft pink. Then she has the ultrasound and, you guessed it, she's having a boy. So she wants the room painted blue. Why didn't we just paint it yellow the first time around, so it would work for both?
Too late for that now. Right now I'm thinking that maybe he won't mind having a pink room. I mean, just like Joanna said when she bought me that pink shirt last year, "Real men wear pink."
"So why can't real boys look at pink?" I ask her. But she isn't satisfied with that. She wants the baby's room to "look like a boy." After all, she says, she's doing most of the work. She's carrying the kid. Then there'll be labor and delivery.
I could choose the color, she says, if I were the one who was going to go through 12 or more hours of agony. But since she's the one having the baby, she picks blue.
WaitI have an idea. A good one, too. Nursery wall decals! I'll get the Rapid Wall Stripes decals from Walls Need Love! If I make them baby blue, I can do two walls in stripes. Pink AND blue will look great together. What could be better than that?
Above the crib we can put those little sheep wall decals for him to count. We'll use the Custom Text Tool to create his name in blue, too. Then on the other wall we can put some other nursery decals.
This room is gonna be a winner. Just like our son. He'll have the best of both worlds. He'll be in touch with his feminine side and his masculine side. I can't wait to unveil this masterpiece. She's gonna love it.
"What's that honey? What am I doing in here? Just planning that paint job for the baby's room. What do you think about stripes? Blue stripes would look great, don't you think?"...
"Of course I can do stripes. Of course it'll take a while. All that measuring and planning, you know, to get it all just right. I'll need a few days to set everything up. Then, you know, there's the paint job itself." "What's that? You'll take over washing the dishes and taking out the garbage while I'm working on this? Wow, what a girl!"
This painting isn't so bad after all. Especially since all I have to do is order the nursery decals and follow the easy directions. I won't even need a tarp, and clean-up is really a snap.
Why didn't I think of this before? Nursery wall decals have saved my day. I could even watch the game on my iPhone while I apply the decals. Having kids is a piece of cake, I tell you.
