Nursery Wall Decals that Grow with your Child
Any parent who tells their child, “You can be whatever you want to be as long as you set your mind to it,” is flat out lying. Take me for instance; I reached my adult height of 4 feet 10 inches tall at the tender age of 12. Even if I’d wanted to, there was no way I would have ended up in the women’s NBA. I couldn’t even make the recreational basketball team in the fifth grade! I’m not sure if it was my height (or lack thereof) or the fact that I only made one out of 25 free throw attempts during tryouts that cut me from the team, but either way, I was devastated.
My sad attempt at basketball wasn’t my only height mishap. I clearly remember being an elementary school student and going through the same song and dance many times each year. It would be time for class pictures, the spelling bee, or the Christmas program; like clockwork, the teacher would line us up from shortest to tallest. As if my lack of vertical expanse wasn’t painfully obvious already, I would once again be reminded that I wasn’t tall…I wasn’t even average…I was THE shortest kid in the class. Couldn’t there have been one kid shorter than me all those years? I guess that was too much to ask.
A few years ago when I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I thought long and hard about which baby decals to use to decorate my daughter’s nursery walls. After much contemplation, I decided on a WallsNeedLove Beanstalk Growth Chart along with several other adorable nursery wall decals.
With my husband measuring in at 6’3, I had high hopes that our child would not have to go through the humiliating short person jokes or start off the short end of elementary school lineups. The beautiful green beanstalk decal would be a way for my daughter to visualize and be proud of her growth without having to compare her height to other children. Even though I may change out some of the nursery wall decals and baby decals in a few years, I think I’ll leave the beanstalk growth chart up for a while.
My daughter is so proud of her growth progress carefully recorded and dated on the green chart. Hopefully, one day she will exceed the five foot mark. Until then, I can keep my step stool in the closet and continue reminding her that she can do ALMOST anything she wants to do in life.
Thankfully for me, stellar height wasn’t on the list of job requirements for making nursery wall decals!
